Is touch typing always the fastest option?
Touch typing is often associated with speed and efficiency, but fast typing is possible with other techniques, too. You do not have to follow the ten-finger method to be a fast and accurate typist. Some people work effectively with habits they have developed themselves. So, why consider changing habits if you already type fast, even if you look at the keyboard or do not use all ten fingers? There may still be room to improve accuracy or learn to type without looking down at the keys. Touch typing practice gives you a structured way to work on those skills. Changing a familiar method can feel challenging, and you may initially type more slowly while learning the finger positions. As the movements become familiar, speed can improve alongside accuracy. Whether that improvement is worth the time spent learning depends on your current skills and how you use the keyboard. If you decide to learn touch typing, allow time to practice rather than expecting an immediate increase in speed.
