Typing accents and using key combinations
Accents and other diacritics are part of correct spelling in many languages. Spanish letters such as á and é can indicate stress and distinguish words; Portuguese uses letters such as é, ê and ã. How you enter them depends on your keyboard layout: some have a dedicated key, while others require a modifier or an accent key followed by the letter. Practice the combination or sequence for your layout so you can enter the characters accurately. Other writing systems also use sequences of keys. Korean Hangul is an alphabet whose consonants and vowels form syllable blocks. With a common Korean input method, you type the component letters in sequence and the software combines them into a syllable. Some letters require Shift as well. Learning to type in another language takes practice, especially when the letter positions or input sequences are unfamiliar. Give yourself time to learn the writing system and the keyboard input it uses.
